Role of Architecture in Civil Engineering and Construction Industries

July 8, 2017

Architecture and civil engineering are the two careers that dominate the field of construction. A good building cannot be born (much less rise) without the prior management and knowledge of these two professionals who work together to develop simple or complex structures in order to meet the needs of the human being.

Civil engineering and architecture are similar, overlapping majors and occupations, with some key differences. Civil engineers and architects complement each other’s' work. An architect takes care of the design and shape of a building whereas a civil engineer takes care of the technical nitty-gritty like the strength of the building. Architecture is art; civil engineering is more about physics

Civil engineering and architecture are similar, with some key differences. Civil engineers and architects complement each other’s' work. An architect takes care of the design and shape of a building whereas a civil engineer takes care of the technical nitty-gritty like the strength of the building. Architectural Drafting and Civil Engineering go together for the success of a construction industry.

And here is the object of building such construction: A building rises to meet the needs of the human being and to fulfill a complete list of such needs in a safe, functional, aesthetic and effective way. Often, we observe that many university and end-of-school students often confuse the "what to do" related to the profession of an architect with that of the civil engineer. It must be recognized that both professions complement each other, but their final work is completely different. An architect needs a civil engineer who builds the projects he designs, and in the opposite case, a civil engineer needs the architect to design the plans necessary to build.

In a given case when a civil engineer designs from scratch the previous plans of a building forgetting the aesthetic aspects, it cannot be considered as a good architectural piece.

Architecture consists of designing and constructing buildings for the use of man, and it is considered as an art from the moment it carries with it the aesthetic search in each of the buildings that rise.

Otherwise, for an architect to be able to fully exercise the "what to do" of a civil engineer, he requires a deep update on the area, since the profession involves new theories, calculations, and strategies that are only learned when you study engineering as a profession. The correct study of civil engineering as a preferred profession means that the professional can handle and exercise without problems the following points: Study project feasibility, direction, inspection, construction, operation, Civil CAD Services, CAD Engineering, and maintenance of buildings, whatever their destination with all their complementary works.

In conclusion, the architect is in charge of designing buildings, thinking about the distribution of elements, aesthetics, and functionality of them. It is a work associated with high creativity, both to optimize the use of resources and to break schemes. The civil engineer, on the other hand, focuses on the structure of the constructions and studies the conditions so that the design in planes is materialized in the best way. He also analyses the materials that will be used in the construction, the condition of the land, among other aspects. Furthermore, he is also responsible for the maintenance and execution of the work.

These two definitions help to understand that the architect and the civil engineer complement each other and work in a coordinated way to realize a good final building or structure with the proper standards of quality and safety.
